About
Joyce San Mateo is a performing vocalist and songwriter whose penchant for soul, funk, gospel and jazz started at an early age back home in the Philippines. Her father, Romy, taught her jazz standards at a very young age, being a performing musician himself. The early part of her career was in Asia where Joyce was featured as a solo jazz vocalist in numerous five-star hotels and music lounges.
When she moved to the Netherlands, she explored and expanded her musical performances in genres such as R&B,Soul, Dance, Rock, Trance, Gospel and Funk. This led to a prolific collaboration with multiple cover bands playing all sorts of musical styles.
She has collaborated with a couple of world renowned musicians. She was the featured vocalist/co-writer of legendary american jazz funk trumpeter, Tom Browne’s single “Daydreamin’ ”(2015), his albums ‘Legacy’ (2016) and ‘Come What May’ (2020). She has performed with him as the featured vocalist at his live concerts in Europe and a few shows in the U.S.
She has also collaborated with UK’s legendary English jazz-funk band Shakatak’s bassist, George Anderson. She’s one of the featured vocalists in his album “Songs from tomorrow” released in 2021. She co-wrote and recorded the vocal tracks of the single “Let’s celebrate life”, that came out in 2020 and “Love makes you feel the pain” (2021).
In 2021, UK DJ Peter Smedley of Solar radio, introduced Joyce to Andy Welland, one of the fantastic team DJ producers of Sound of Superbad who had 3 number 1’s in the Soul Charts. After a couple of months of collaboration, exchange of music and vocal productions, in August 5, 2022, their EP “You’re the best thing” was released. Andy Welland and Sassy P. produced the music of the original soul versions, neo, house remixes of the tracks “You’re the best thing” and “Loving you” and Joyce wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies of both songs. She sang in all the tracks of the EP, both lead and backing vocals. It reached multiple Soul and R&B Charts in the UK. It became No.1 – The Network Soul ’25’ Chart (JFSR.co.uk- Jazz Funk Soul Radio); No.1 – The Amazon R&B ‘Hot New Releases’ Chart ;nr. 1 Hot releases of Amazon UK; No.2 – The UK Soul Chart (Starpoint Radio) ; No.2 – The Sweet Rhythms Chart (Solar Radio) ; No.2 – The LMR Chart (London Music Radio) and nr. 2 in The Hot Jamm 10 of JammFm in The Netherlands ; and many more Soul Chart positions.
